Cesarean Scar Release.
For women ready to heal after a caesarean birth
Your scar has healed. The rest of you deserves to as well.
Your scar is more than a line on your skin. It represents a birth, however it unfolded. We tend to overlook is the deep emotional underbelly held in the tissue beneath. Tension, numbness, and disconnection that lingers long after the surface tissue has healed.
During a cesarean scar release session we go gently and begin the process of exploring what lies beneath the visible layer, softening, supporting and releasing anything that birth has left behind.
Nobody prepares you for life after a caesarean.
You’re sent home with a newborn, and told to rest?! What they fail to inform you is that months, or even years later, you might still feel a pulling sensation when you stand up straight, numbness across your lower belly or a weird disconnect between you and the part of your body that grew and birthed your baby. You may have even tried massaging it, but you weren't sure if you we’re doing it right or felt uncomfortable touching the area.
You’ve probably been told, “Your scar looks great, you’re fine to get back to normal activity.”
The support most women receive after a caesarean birth is minimal at best and does not address the deeper, less visible impacts; the emotional elements that your scar may represent, particularly if a cesarean birth was not your first preference. In addition the common physical manifestations numbness, tingling, back + pelvic pain, a visible scar shelf, abdominal weakness and the quiet disconnection from a part of your body that went through something BIG.
doesn't address the flow on effect this type of birth can have on the body, the nervous system, or the emotional weight that can sit within a cesarean scar.
The Myth: "My scar looks fine, so it must be fine."
Scars don't have to look angry or raised to be causing problems beneath the surface. Adhesions can form silently in the deeper layers of tissue — affecting your core, your pelvic floor, your posture, your digestion, and even your ability to conceive again. A scar that appears healed on the outside can still be quietly pulling on everything around it.
Women spend years dealing with symptoms they never connect back to their caesarean — lower back pain, bladder urgency, hip tension, a core that "won't switch on" — not realising that the scar is part of the story.
The truth: When the scar tissue is properly released all the way through the layers, with the nervous system supported and the breath restored things shift. Women stand taller. Their core reconnects. The pulling disappears. Some describe it as finally feeling whole again. That's not a miracle. That's what happens when you address the root, not just the surface.
Cesarean scar release is for you if;
You are freshly postpartum and ready to begin healing.
You are planning another pregnancy.
Have carried your scar unaddressed for years and know it could use some attention.
Feel your caesarean birth experience is something you're still processing and would like some support unpacking it all.

“You were one of the first people who found out about my pregnancy and you helped me go from feeling awfully sick and alone, with no idea of the process of pregnancy and labour and the paperwork etc. you felt like an “instant friend” support person who had travelled the road before who I could trust for advice and who I could come to and be myself and you gave space for so much healing not just physically but emotionally thought out my pregnancy journey.”

FAQs
-
Caesarean scar release is a hands-on treatment that works with the physical and emotional layers a caesarean birth leaves behind. It uses a combination of manual scar tissue release, acupuncture, myofascial release, cupping, gua sha, moxa, breathwork, and LED light therapy to release adhesions, restore deep core function, support nervous system regulation, and reconnect you to your body after birth. Emma Burridge at The Birth Movement in Collaroy on Sydney's Northern Beaches offers a somatic approach that integrates both the physical and emotional dimensions of your birth experience.
-
Treatment can begin from 8 weeks postpartum, once your scar is fully healed and there are no open wounds or signs of infection. There is no upper limit, women come for this work anywhere from 8 weeks to 8 years (and beyond) after their caesarean. It is never too late.
-
Your initial session is 90 minutes. We begin with a conversation about your birth, your experience, and anything you're still carrying from it. From there, treatment moves through a full assessment of your posture, breath, and scar before hands-on work begins. Addressing the upper abdomen and diaphragm, the abdominal wall, the hips, the scar itself, and finishing with deep core reconnection. You'll leave with a home care plan to support your healing between sessions.
-
Most women notice meaningful change within 2–4 treatments. Every body is different, and the timeline depends on how long the scar has been unaddressed, your overall health, and your goals; whether that's pain relief, core reconnection, preparation for another pregnancy, or emotional processing
-
Your birth partner is only required for the one partner preparation session.
-
No. Many women come not because they are in pain, but because they feel disconnected from their body, their core isn't functioning well, or they are preparing for another conception or pregnancy. You don't need a symptom to justify care — you just need a scar and a desire to heal.
